PRAGUE'S TOP TEN RESTAURANTS

OK, as with the "Top 10" Prague sites, it's hard to pick just 10 top restaurants.  So I'll just name a few of my favorite places for different types of cuisine and see what we come up with!

While many of Prague's best restaurants are now located out of the city center, there are still a few finds in town.  And you won't be limited to Czech cuisine. Prague has recently gone through (and is still going through) a food revolution.  You can find great Thai, Italian, Continental and other types of food in town. In fact, much of it is excellent, and even with all the tourist traps, it's now hard not to find a good meal in Prague.  Here are a few top picks, but for a more complete run down of the dining scene in Prague, check out my unique Prague Restaurant Guide.

Czech Fare

Good quality Czech food is a bit hard to find amongst all the tourist traps, but here are a few good choices in the historic center:
  • Lokal - Two locations, great roasted duck, and the best bread dumplings in town (and great "tank" beer, fresh and unpasteurized, from the Pilsner Urquell brewery with which to wash it all down).
  • Kolkovna - While it's designed for tourists, the quality of the food and the selection of Czech dishes is quite good here.  Kolkovna is part of a chain belonging to the world-famous Pilsner Urquell brewery, so the beer is quite good and fresh here.  Olympia (below) is also part of the chain.
  • Malostranska Beseda - Good beer from the tank and well-prepared Czech specialties in Mala Strana.
  • Olympia - a sister restaurant to Kolkovna, this place has great Czech goulash.

International Cuisine

You can also find great international food in Prague, especially when it comes to the Asian variety.  But there's a lot more, from French to Sardinian.  Some notable choices are:
  • No Stress Cafe - This restaurant in Old Town offers French-Asian fusion in a pleasant dining atmosphere
  • Sansho - This is one of the newest and one of the best additions to Prague's dining scene.  You'll be served whatever they've prepared that day in their 6-course tasting menu.
Ichnusa - Fresh fish and great pasta and wine can be found in this homey Sardinian eatery.
  • La Finestra - This trendy (and pricey) Italian restaurant is all about meat.  But there are other meals on offer, too.  The Botega next door also offers small meals in a less formal atmosphere.
  • Red Pif - The main draw of this place is its fabulous selection of French and Czech wines by the glass.  But the French cuisine is really good, too.
  • Café de Paris - This place basically has one main dish (with a couple of extra ones thrown in for non-meat eaters):  steak with a delicious "secret sauce" and heavenly fries served with a green salad with the perfect light vinaigrette.
  • Noi - Offering good Thai food in Mala Strana, Noi is also a trendy meeting place in the evenings.
