Will 2022 be the year that travel returns? In many respects, it’s looking that way. And for obvious reasons, I certainly hope so. Needless to say, I’m hoping for the revival of my Prague tour business, but I’m also looking forward to being able to travel freely internationally again myself!

Hopefully Travel requirements will become more uniform over time - and soon!

At the same time, I understand those who would rather wait until things settle down more, especially after having taken my first international trip since the pandemic began this past Christmas to see my family in the U.S. But hopefully travel requirements will soon become more uniform across countries and across airlines (and hopefully they will be fewer in number as well). And of course, we all hope the spread of the virus will slow and begin to decrease!

There have been many predictions about the Omicron variant of the coronavirus being the variant that might end the pandemic, at least the emergency phase of it that has resulted in so many restrictions and disruptions in our daily lives, not just in travel. And while there will certainly be new variants in the future, I hope that they will each be milder and that we will soon be at the “living with” stage of this virus.

Thankfully, There are some Good Signs
You have probably heard current news reports that many European countries have recently reduced or eliminated pandemic-related restrictions. While this has become somewhat of a springtime/warmer weather ritual, only to see restrictions return when cooler weather returns, too, or when there is a spike in case numbers, this is new in that it is being done in the dead of winter. I take it as an optimistic sign, and we will see if it “sticks.” In the meantime, I’ll be monitoring things here in the Czech Republic, of course, and I’ll try to keep you updated.
Other signs are also good: I have already gotten several bookings for tours for this year, beginning in the early spring. While I had a few bookings last year, none of them were for a date so early in the year. So things are looking better than they did at this time last year. Also, Viking Cruises is ramping up their trips, which is another good sign, and many Viking clients who are doing a Prague add-on have booked with me for this year as well, as many have in the past.
